Batak Mandailing is a Batak sub-tribe that inhabits the area around South Tapanulis Regency, Mandailing Natal Regency, and Padang Lawas Regency. Batak sub-tribe has a custom clothing in accordance with Batak Toba, which is a blend of ulos cloth with a variety of other accessories.
The bridal gowns Headgear is called Ampu, which is the crown worn by the kings of Mandailing in the past. The material is velvet with golden ornaments and the icing on the edge of the ampu is design to be up and down which has the meaning: up, always remember the creator and down, always humble.
The bride’s dress is a head cover called Bulang, a golden image with several levels. In the past, this rate indicates the number or species of animals slaughtered during traditional ceremonies. The original bulang are made from real gold. Then, covering the chest area is a black necklace with gold ornaments plus 2 pieces of scarf from songket. And with a Plain golden color bracelet on the upper arm, golden belt with 2 small blade and Kurung clothes.
Then,a godang shirt that is in the form of a suit decorated with golden hips that has 2 small blades and are called bobat. A plain golden color bracelet on the upper arm. And the cloth is put aside from the songket.
Relationship: Because Kenanga is a special flower (flora of identity) of North Sumatra province. Kenanga plants have flowers that has an aromateraphic fragrant and so it was ratified into a perfume. Kenanga flowers are also often used in traditional ceremonies. Therefore it is why custom mandailing clothes are connected to the product of fragrant ylang flower design.
